What happens in the Sauna?

For the duration of the time you have booked, the sauna heat is maintained by our Saunista (a Saunista is a lot like a Barista but without the coffee, they do however make the perfect sauna for you).

There is a ladle and bucket of water in the sauna to drizzle over the sauna rocks to create the Loyly (steam) and more heat if required. It’s a personal choice as to how long you spend in a sauna, however guidance is maximum 20 minutes at a time and then pop out to cool off. However, as we purposely do not have a clock in the sauna, it’s important to listen to your body and do whatever feels right to you.

We suggest as a beginner you only do 10 minutes at a time. A plunge bath and watering cans are nearby and filled with cold water to cool you down, plus the sea is right there…but that depends on tide times.

Drinking water is available and orange slices are provided about 10 minutes before the end of your session, this gives a lovely vitamin sea boost at the end of your sauna experience. Saunista’s are on site at all times to advise you and help you with any questions you may have.

What do I need to bring?

You will need two towels, one to sit on in the sauna and one to dry off with after the sauna. You will need drinking water, flippy floppies/ sliders/ suitable footwear for outside of the sauna. Please wear suitable swimwear ( avoid swimwear with metal clasps on them as they may get hot on your skin!) and some loose dry clothing for after your session has ended.

When should I arrive?

Please join us 10 minutes before your session to allow for a quick safety briefing and to get changed if needed. Your clothes/ towels/ personal belongings will be placed in storage buckets provided and kept an eye on for the duration of your sauna. Do leave any jewellery and valuables at home/ in another safe location as we will not be held responsible for any losses.

What facilities are near by?

There is free parking by Sea Lane cafe and there are public toilets close to GloSauna.
We provide deck chairs and bean bags for your relaxation before and after the session.
There is the wonderful Sea Lane Cafe right next door to our GloSauna which we highly recommend and you may just find you need it with all that sweating! Click here for their website and menu.

Who can use the sauna?

Anyone from 5 years old can use the sauna, but only as part of a private booking and from 5-16 years old those little munchkins have to be accompanied by an adult.
If you have any underlying health conditions please seek medical advice before making your booking, especially if you are pregnant or are known to have high blood pressure.

Will I be sharing the sauna with anyone?

Our community sauna sessions are open to a maximum of 6 people and unless you book the full capacity during your time slot you will be sharing the sauna with others, but what a way to meet like minded seekers of hygge.

To guarantee privacy book a private session.

How hot does the sauna get?

Imagine when you have a shower at home, it’s probably around 35-40 degrees centigrade, well, the sauna can reach up to 85 degrees centigrade. The humidity which makes it feel hotter is changeable in the sauna by pouring water over the rocks to create steam.

To get the biggest benefit we recommend cooling off between rounds by using our galvanised tin plunge bath, the watering can showers, or, ideally, by jumping into the sea (if conditions allow).

Does weather stop play?

We are open all year round and in all weathers. There’s nothing like a grey blustery day with some drizzle or full driving rain to revive and invigorate you!
The only weather that might stop us is HIGH WINDS or THUNDER/LIGHTENING, but we will contact you to reschedule your booking.
